On December 25th, the founder of computer industry giant Acer Inc. Mr. Stan Shih and Wife, and Director of the PESROC Mr. Wei-Qing Hong visited the Academy. They were received by principal Major General Yang. Mr. Stan Shih gifted books to the Academy. During this visit and exchange, Mr. Shih talked with instructors and cadets about how to integrate relevant information into the education of military academies and equip classrooms with Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and Cloud. The cadets were very surprised at how such a legend in the computer industry was so approachable as he handed out Christmas cards and took pictures with the cadets after their meals. They then visited the Education Lab of the Department of Avionics to experience simulated flights.
The relationship between the Air Force Academy and Mr. Stan Shih began as early as 1986. At that time, Multitech (predecessor of Acer) helped build the first set of LAN computerized classrooms in the new building of the Air Force Academy and was a model for caring about society. The interactions they had at the Academy greatly benefited the instructors and cadets of our school.
