R.O.C. Air Force Academy Was Awarded the 2017 Outstanding Service Team by the Ministry of Science and Technology for its Popular Science Volunteer Pilot Project
DATE:2018-06-07Lieutenant Colonel Chen, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Avionics Engineering at the Academy, put together a volunteer team with participants from the Department of Avionics Engineering and the Department of Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering. The team has completed 3 sessions of winter camp at the Aviation Education Exhibition Hall and 2 volunteer sessions on the theme of “promoting popular science concerning applications of an Industry 4.0 drone.” Thirty cadets from the Department of Avionics Engineering and the Department of Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering actively participated in the volunteer team to popularize the themes of drone and the Internet of Things; they served approximately 300 members of the public. The team was awarded the 2017 outstanding service team by the Ministry of Science and Technology for its science volunteer project at the achievement presentation at Cheng Shiu University on June 3rd.
At the presentation on June 3rd, the voice assistant, Algoogle, was displayed on the Academy’s stand, along with programmed drones and handmade powered paper planes. Many people were attracted to the Academy’s stand; among them, the youngest was 4 years old and the oldest 82. They had fun and learned happily. Moreover, many parents and students visited the stand to collect the Academy Profile and make an admission inquiry.
Professor Chen of the Department of Avionics Engineering thanked the organizer and the Academy for their support. He also expressed his gratitude to cadets in their junior or senior year who participated in the volunteer project. He will continue to develop the themes: artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things in the next academic year, lead cadets to participate in volunteering, and promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, as well as multiple sciences, for all age groups in society.
