B-720 Chung- Mei Special Mission Plane
The B-720, made by the Boeing Company and one of Boeing 707 series, started its service on May 26, 1961. Equipped with four P&W JT3D-3B turbo-fan engines of each with 18,000 pounds thrust force, it is able to cruise at a maximum speed of 545 nautical miles per hour (1,010 km/h) for over eight hours. The ROC Air Force purchased it from the Northwest Airline of the US on December 5, 1971, and put it into service the following year as the President’s plane till September 27, 1991. During the period, it had perfectly completed 306 sorties of taking presidents, senior government officials and world leaders, including 7 overseas special missions.
