HU-16 (Quakerbird)
History
The HU-16 was made by the Grumman Co. of the US, equipped with two R-1820-76D reciprocating engines of each with 1,425 horse powers. Its maximum speed is 200 nautical miles per hour, maximum range is 2,660 miles and service ceiling is 21,000 feet. It embarks 10 passengers or 12 litters, carrying 4 life boats and 4 dinghies. It could fly low-altitude for consecutive 24 hours and carry out search and rescue missions on the sea. The HU-16 came into the Air Force service in 1968 and was officially retired on August 1, 1987.
