The R.O.C. Air Force Academy band was invited to the “Liudui 300 Hakka Games” held at Meinong Junior High School by the Kaohsiung City Government to lead the officiators and athletes in entering the stadium.
“Liudiu Hakka Games” is known as the “Small Olympic Games under Taiwu Mountain” and was an activity originated from Liudiu ancestors to protect their hometown. In order to pass on the Hakka culture of Liudui, starting from 1948, the 12 township (district) offices of Liudui Region in Kaohsiung and Pingtung took turns in holding this event. This is the most representative traditional competition event of the Hakka people in Southern Taiwan.
For this event, students from the band used their spare time to improve their skills in order to present audiences with an outstanding performance. Melodious music along with synchronized steps demonstrated the brilliant band tradition from the R.O.C. Air Force Academy and won great applause. By taking part in this event, we not only enhanced military-civilian interaction, but also presented the passion of Air Force Academy students to society. Students also felt honored to take part in it.
Parade conductor 3rd-grader Chen Qi-liang said that he was born and raised in Meinong. He felt really proud and happy to be able to lead the band to perform in his hometown. He also hoped that there can be more exchanges and performing opportunities with the civilians for more people to appreciate the effort and passion of Air Force Academy students.
