My Chinese New Year in Virginia Military Institute
DATE:2015-03-19In the U.S., because the winter vacation is around Christmas, I have holiday earlier than my classmates in Taiwan. Also, the holiday ends earlier. In order to match the school schedule, we exchanged students in the U.S. had reunion dinner in early February to celebrate Chinese New Year in advance. To make us feel the atmosphere of Chinese New Year, the seniors prepared a lot of Chinese delicacy which we were familiar with, even though we were in the U.S. Moreover, we also shared the happiness and joy with the officers in the U.S. While my family and friends were having New Year’s Eve dinner, I was doing my assignment in my department building due to the earlier winter vacation. What’s worse, it was the coldest day of the year and there had been a rain storm for consecutive two days. Under these terrible circumstances, I cannot help but feel upset. Although this is the third year in the U.S., and frankly, I don’t have much thoughts and feeling because I am used to studying abroad alone, I still had a sense of disappointment not to have reunion with my family. Suddenly, the seniors told me that we had to gather in the evening. My mood became worse and worse, because in the beginning I thought maybe someone made mistakes and we would be punished. All of us were unhappy until we saw the red envelopes in the upperclassmen’s hands. Perhaps sometimes we cannot accompany with our family because of study or tasks. The Air force is just like a big family, and it also brings us a homely feel.
