To help Air Force officers and cadets realize the meaning of life and cherish the resources they have, Captain Yeh, the company commander of the Service Company of the Air Force Academy, led the officers, cadets and substitute civilian servicepersons to the Gangshan Welfare and Service Center for the Disabled in Kaohsiung City to serve as one-day volunteers, so as to experience what it meant for the military to cherish civilians.
By participating in the packing work outsourced to the Center, personnel from the Service Company helped the disabled to pack and seal chopping boards, so that the 1,100 packs of chopping boards could be shipped abroad on time.
Captain Yeh said that something as easy as packing was in fact not easy for people with disabilities. He expected that by witnessing the difficulties that others had in life, the officers, cadets and civilian servicepersons would truly understand the values and meaning of life, become grateful and cherish what they have. This experience would also become one of the unforgettable memories in their military career.
They also helped to clean up the Center and accompanied the disabled to a supermarket in the neighborhood. Through work like these, they helped to provide a more comfortable environment and care for the disabled, thus making the one-day experience more meaningful.
